Dorothea Tanning

Tanning’s career blossomed in the forties with her solo exhibition at the Julian Levy Gallery along with her introduction to the man who would become her life partner for 34 years, Max Ernst. Exhibiting frequently, she would produce works in New York, Sedona AZ, and in France With studios in Paris and later Seillans. Following her retrospective at the Centre National d’Art Contemporain in Paris, she returned to New York where she would remain until her death at age 101. It was my great pleasure to have known her and to have produced four exhibitions and publications. She was a great friend, and special thanks must be given to Pam Johnson for her creation and inspiration realizing the Dorothea Tanning Foundation.
